ABOUT ME
Thank you so much for visiting the Voice of One Blog site. My name is Zack Avery. My beautiful wife and I have been married since December of 2009 and have been blessed with 4 wonderful children. I was saved by the grace of God in January 2015.
For the first 4 years after my conversion, I attended a oneness apostolic non-denominational church serving as an assistant to my father (and then pastor) for the last couple of years. After struggling with the doctrine of God in Scripture, I became convinced that the oneness position — which was very much central to that affiliation — was not the biblical position and upon accepting as truth the doctrine of the Trinity, I became convinced that continuing serving as assistant pastor there would do more harm than good in the long run. I stepped down from that position and my family made the decision to withdraw our membership there and seek what we would consider to be a more “biblically faithful” church. More can be read on this in a book I self-published titled “The Father and The Son: A Laymen’s Examination of the Relationship between God the Father and God the Son in Holy Scripture” (available on Amazon).
As tough as the decision was it has proved to be the appropriate one — not only for my family and I, but I trust that even our old church has benefited by the absence of division within the leadership.
We soon found a home at First Baptist of Pocahontas. We’ve become members and have enjoyed the opportunity to serve in various youth programs and Bible study groups. Since then, my oldest 2 children have been baptized after confessions of faith in the Lord Jesus, something I’m very grateful to God for. During my doctrinal transition concerning the Godhead, I also became a convinced Calvinist through the study of Scripture. However, I attend a non-reformed church and have a great relationship with my non-reformed pastor. This helps me in my desire to remain balanced and considerate of other perspectives. Hopefully in time we will go into further details on this in future blogs.
Anyways, I look forward to getting to share some of the thoughts on various Christian issues along with some theology book reviews and insights that I’ve found helpful along the way. Please feel free to reach out with any feedback, questions, or concerns. Thanks again for the interest. I pray the Lord blesses you by the material found on the site.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.— 2 Corinthians 13:14
